New machines for the Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik

The Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik in Tornesch/Germany has started production operations with two new machines: the plant has installed a rotary die-cutter and an inline machine, each of which also features four printing units. With this new plant the printing and processing of corrugated board is state-of-the-art and both machines allow a faster production cycle accompanied by improved quality.

In preparation for the installation of the Case-Line Evolution inline machine and the RDC Evolution rotary die-cutter, more than 2,000qm of additional production space was created. The building work was planned and implemented from the start with actual and future GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) requirements in mind.

The hall extension creates sufficient space for the new state-of-the-art plant, which in comparison to the previous production machinery is significantly larger. Each of the printing units in both the rotary die-cutter and the inline printing and gluing machine features infrared drying, which also supports the processing of lacquers. The use of lacquers is becoming more frequent, as customer requirements for high-quality packaging are increasingly met by the use of gloss lacquers.

Automation rigorously expanded
From the word go, quality has been the declared objective of this investment. The new printing plant uses special anilox rolls, with which screen and line prints in particular can be realised in outstanding quality.

The inline machine features an additional cleaning station for the easy and complete removal of residual corrugated board from the machine itself. A double-folding station permits precise and careful folding, while an extra monitoring of glue for the identification and avoidance of possible defects is also integrated. The additional die-cutting unit means that ungrooved blanks can be printed across their whole area and then subsequently grooved and die-cut. This produces perfect all-over prints.

The inline machine produces high-quality products for customers of the Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik in a single working operation.

With the new rotation die-cutter, production of die-cut packaging at the Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik is faster and even more efficient.
